Spurs Make it 'Do what it Do'
Well, say what you want but the Spurs just keep making it 'Do what it do.' Yes Tim is great but boring. Yes, Tony Parker is living a great life and yes, Bowen is dirty as hell. Let's face it, the East sucks and the King James is only 22 years old. He is not quite ready. I was shocked they made it to the finals in the first place. The east sucks but there is no way Cleveland should have been there. There are several other teams from the west who would have beat Cleveland.
Talk about a bad sports city. I live in Chicago and we have our problems with our teams and fans are periodically suicidal. Luckily, we have winners and champions in Chicago every so often. At this point I am beginning to wonder how there are any Cleveland sports fans left alive. So, who is to blame for Cleveland turning into this sports hell hole?
I say Art Modell is to blame for Cleveland's mess. Back in the 1965 they had just completed two straight trips to the NFL Championship Game with Jim Brown leading the way. I love watching the old film of Jim Brown dominating the gridiron. In fact Jim Brown's last game was the 1965 NFL Championship game against the Green Bay Packers. The Browns were a dominate team. If you were the owner of a dominate team wouldn't you do all that you could to preserve it?
Jim Brown was an activist in the civil rights movement and an emerging film star. During the off season Mr. Brown went to Europe to film the Dirty Dozen. Due to no fault of Mr. Brown the filming ran over and was going to cause him to be late reporting to camp. Art Modell took a hard stance with Brown who was already contemplaiting retirement. He threatened to heavily fine arguarbly the greatest player who ever lived. This threat forced Brown hand and he decided to retire. Jim Brown decided he had given enough blood, sweat and tears to the game. He retired after only 9 years in the league.
That was the beginning to a legacy of losing that may be far more significant than "The curse of the Bambino" or the lovable losers that are the Cubs. Boston and Chicago have had many other champions. But Cleveland is a different story. Art Modell, ushered in a curse, a disease, an epidemic of losing that was so horrid that he had to leave the city for Baltimore.
I feel your pain Cleveland. I was a Brown fan (second to the Cowboys) for both 'The Drive' and 'The Fumble'. That was all I could handle.
The Drive, The Fumble, The Shot, and now The Sweep. I have officially crossed Cleveland off of my places to live list.
